🛒 BagIt – Privacy Policy

BagIt ("we", "our", or "the app") is a smart shopping list application developed by Hovhannes Stepanyan. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information BagIt collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding your data.

            Summary: BagIt stores your shopping data locally on your device. We do not collect
            personal information, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties.
        

1. Information We Collect

BagIt is designed with a privacy-first approach. Here is what the app accesses:

Data stored locally on your device:

Shopping list items, groups, and categories
Shopping history and checklist records
App preferences and settings (language, theme, reminders)
Price tracking data (if used)

All of the above data is stored in a local database on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

Data processed temporarily:

Camera & Photos: When you use the OCR (text recognition) feature, images are processed on-device using Google ML Kit or, if enabled, sent to a third-party AI provider for text extraction. Images are not stored or retained after processing.
Microphone: If you use voice input, audio is processed by your device's speech recognition service. BagIt does not record or store audio.
Clipboard: When you share text to BagIt (e.g., via Quick Settings tile), clipboard content is read once to parse shopping items. It is not stored or transmitted.

2. Permissions

BagIt requests the following Android permissions, all of which are optional:

Camera – To scan handwritten or printed shopping lists using OCR.
Notifications – To send shopping reminders you have set.
Microphone – To enable voice input for adding items.
Internet – To access AI-powered features (smart suggestions, cloud OCR) and process in-app purchases.
Exact Alarm / Boot Completed – To ensure scheduled reminders are delivered on time, even after device restart.
Vibrate – For haptic feedback on interactions.
Billing – To process premium subscription purchases through Google Play.

You can grant or revoke any permission at any time from your device's Settings or within the app's Settings screen.

3. Third-Party Services

BagIt may integrate with the following third-party services:

Google ML Kit – On-device text recognition for OCR. Data is processed locally and is not sent to Google servers. See ML Kit Terms.
AI Providers (optional) – If you enable cloud AI features (smart suggestions, AI-powered OCR fallback), your shopping list text may be sent to third-party AI services for processing. No personal identifiers are included in these requests.
Google Play Billing – Premium subscription purchases are handled by Google Play. Payment information is managed entirely by Google. See Google Privacy Policy.
MediaPipe / Local AI Models – If you choose to use local AI inference, models run entirely on your device. No data leaves your device when using local AI.

4. Data Storage & Security

All shopping list data is stored locally in an encrypted database on your device.
We do not operate servers that collect or store your personal data.
App preferences are stored using Android SharedPreferences on your device.
You can delete all your data at any time from the app's Settings ("Remove all data").

5. Data Sharing

BagIt does not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties. When you use the "Share" feature, you choose to send your shopping list content to another app or person — this is initiated and controlled entirely by you.

6. Children's Privacy

BagIt is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

8. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it:

Access: View all your data directly in the app.
Delete: Use "Remove all data" in Settings, or uninstall the app to delete all data.
Portability: Share/export your shopping lists at any time.
